A U.S. Air Force airman from 27th Special Operations Wing was found dead in his Clovis home at about 7 a.m. on August 14.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss,” Col. Michael E. Conley, vice commander, 27th Special Operations Wing. “We send our sincere condolences to his friends and family during this time of grief.”

A coworker discovered the body of Tech. Sgt. William R. Byrd, 38, of South Carolina, and called 9-1-1. Byrd is survived by his wife, Mika, and three children, who reside in Clovis, mother, Merle Byrd, sister, Kirsten Byrd, both of South Carolina, and a brother.

Byrd served as flight chief for the 27th Special Operations Security Forces Squadron at Cannon.

Details surrounding the death are under investigation.
