We’ve heard of children, other family members, or even pets being held for ransom, but a cell phone?
According to police reports, it’s happened to a man in Abilene.
The man reportedly lost his phone outside his residence on the 200 block of Victoria Street on Saturday. Days later, he received a call from someone claiming to have found it.
However, the caller wasn’t a Good Samaritan trying to do the right thing. He told the phone’s owner that his property would only be returned if he paid the right price.
The phone’s owner refused to pay the ransom, so the caller stated he was keeping the phone.
The caller will be charged with theft once tracked down. The investigation is ongoing.
The phone is question is an iPhone 5, valued at $500.
