The Lubbock Challenger Little League kicks off its 26th Season on Saturday, April 1 at Challenger Field in McAlister Park on Marsha Sharp Freeway and Milwaukee Avenue.

The Lubbock Challenger Little League Division was created in 1991 for children in the Lubbock community with physical or mental disabilities, according to the organization’s Facebook page.  Since then, the league has grown from four participants to more than 200 along with hundreds more “buddies”, coaches, volunteers, and supporters.

The opening day ceremonies will include a Fun-Fair at 9:00 a.m and the first pitch will be thrown at 10:00 a.m.

Jeff Gibson, League Coordinator.  “There are still hundreds of special kids out there who are able and want to play, they just don’t know about us.”

In an emailed statement, Gibson asked local media to help spread the word.

“[Challenger Little League is] a story of persistence, tolerance, acceptance and dedication of some pretty special people,” Gibson said.
