A day after relocating to Los Angeles, the Chargers have hired Anthony Lynn as their new head coach.

“I’m having a hard time even putting into words how excited I am to be the new head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers,” Lynn said in the statement the Chargers. “I want all of our fans to know that we’re going to start by putting together a great staff and we’re going to put together a team with the heart and will of a champion.”

The former Texas Tech running back, who rreportedly agreed to a four-year deal, becomes the 16th head coach in Chargers history.

“I couldn’t be more excited and proud of anybody,” former Texas Tech assistant Rick Dykes said. “I’ve kept in touch with Anthony during this process.”

Rick Dykes was Lynn’s position during his final two season at Texas Tech.

“He approached every day with an extreme work ethic,” Dykes said. “No one out worked him, no one out hustled him.  He came prepared.  He studied the opponents.  He was a complete football player.”

Lynn has been an NFL assistant since 2000 and spent the last two seasons with the Bufflao Bills.

He was promoted from running backs coach to offensive coordinator earlier in the season and served as interim head coach in the Bill season finale.
