A Lubbock County jury will begin deliberations Thursday concerning Charles Chavez, 29, who was accused of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
A police report said in 2014 Chavez was an employee of the Boys & Girls Club. The report said he took three children to his home for overnight visits.
The children were touched on their butts and Chavez attempted to penetrate at least one of the victims, according to the police report.
Later a fourth possible victim was identified by police and prosecutors.
Chavez took the stand in his own defense. He claimed he was sexually abused as a child. Chavez told police in 2014 that he had been sold, tortured, and sexually abused as a 5-year-old.
His defense attorney argues that Chavez did not abuse the children despite admitting to it when talking to police. The defense said Chavez was re-living childhood memories of being abused.
A jury was chosen Monday and heard testimony on Tuesday and Wednesday. Starting Thursday morning, the jury can deliberate. EverythingLubbock.com will provide an update when a verdict is reached.
