After a second election to decide the winner in the race for Lubbock Independent School District’s Board of Trustees, District 1 seat, the election results were released by the Lubbock County Office of Elections.

According to the unofficial final report that was released, Chavez earned 53% of the total vote, and Ybarra received 47%.

Chavez said she was appreciative for her family and community who elected her, and had a message for her constituents.

“District 1, like I’ve said before, I have a commitment to them. I’m going to keep it. I plan on keeping them informed at all times. That’s first and foremost what I need to do. Always keep them informed of what’s happening. No matter small, big, I’m going to keep them informed regardless,” she said.

The Elections Office reported that 303 people voted on Tuesday, with 673 votes counted early, for a total of 976 votes cast.

Chavez received 54% of early votes, and Ybarra received 46% of early votes.

The election reportedly cost LISD approximately $75,000, after both candidates declined to resort to a coin flip to break the original tie.

Calls to Ybarra were not returned Tuesday night.
