On Thursday Lubbock Police Chief Greg Stevens said he moved 15 police detectives to the patrol unit effective in July.
Stevens said he wants more safety on the streets. So, vacancies within the police department will be carried in the investigative sections instead of the patrol division.
Chief Stevens said some of the officers are not happy. But he insisted it’s a lateral move, not a demotion.
Stevens said officers will be returned to the detective positions as new officers are hired and then trained at the LPD police academy.
