More than 40 children were escorted out of a bus at Children’s Hope off Canyon Lake Drive, Monday, headed towards new homes.

Children’s Hope, is a non-profit that works with abused and neglected children. The Canyon Lake location was one of three residential facilities they operated, allowing children to live on site.

“Children’s Hope has decided to focus more on foster care and foster family recruitment,” said CEO James Aldrich. “We’ve decided to close our residential campuses.”

Aldrich said all the children are being relocated by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

When our reporter reached out to verify the story, a DFPS spokesperson responded with this statement:

Today, foster children who had been placed at two campuses of the Children’s Hope Residential Treatment Center (RTC) in Lubbock and Hockley counties are being moved to other placements by the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). The moves from Children’s Hope will be completed today.

Today’s move resulted from the responsibility DFPS has to ensure that each child in legal conservatorship of the state is completely safe, well-cared for, and is in the most appropriate placement for that child. Because of ongoing concerns, DFPS notified the RTC operator last week that no more children could be placed at the two locations pending the current investigation. (Letters attached).
