Anita Blakey and her daughter were getting ready to go to school when she noticed something was wrong.
“I noticed our car had been ransacked, the glove box was open and everything was in disarray and the through further investigation we noticed we were robbed,” said Blakey. “It wasn’t so much the monetary value, but being unsafe.”
Several personal items had been stolen from her car, including her seven-year-old daughter’s favorite jacket and back pack.
“They stole my bag and everything in it,” said Blakey’s daughter, she’s hopeful to get her items back. “That they will return.”
Blakey said she’s not the only one. Several other neighbors posting on the NextDoor app about vehicle or home break-ins all across Central Lubbock. Primarily between 40th and Gary through 50th and Boston.
“It’s becoming an epidemic,” said Blakey. “It’s just frankly disrespectful.”
Lubbock Police suggest neighbors use the site called RAIDS Online as another way for the community to stay informed of recent crimes.
For now neighbors are using the NextDoor app to help one another stay informed.
“The Nextdoor app is great because if anyone sees anything out of place then we’ll report it and everyone can watch out for one another,” said Blakey.
