Each year on or near the January 22 anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court decisions legalizing abortion on demand in the United States, Lubbock’s Nurturing Center helps sponsor a Memorial Mass “to commemorate this tragic anniversary in our nation’s history,” according to Lawrence D’Souza, executive director of the pregnancy resource center.
The Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, January 22, by Most Reverend Robert M. Coerver, Bishop of Lubbock, in Lubbock Christ the King Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. The church is located at 4011 54th Street. Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will provide a color guard.
All people of “good will” are invited to take part in the memorial Mass, according to D’Souza. “This is a prayerful gathering for the intentions of all benefactors over the last 25 years of our life- affirming ministry, for life advocates, for people who have a heartfelt desire to see a culture of love and peace prevail over the cruelty and injustice of abortion on demand.”
All are welcome to join in the prayer of Sacred Liturgy, but receiving Holy Communion is reserved to those who are practicing Catholics.
The Nurturing Center is located at 3303 66th Street, near Indiana. The Nurturing Center is dedicated to providing practical resources to pregnant mothers who are confused or scared and who have been led to believe that they have no choice but abortion.
