Citibus currently transports several Lubbock residents and Texas Tech students daily. But with the current expansion in the southwest area of town, they are having trouble keeping up with the expansion.
“We get calls everyday, it’s just a matter of funding in order for us to go out there,” said Maurice Pearl, the General Manager of Citibus.
Pearl said right now they are focusing on their current routes and are trying to get those more regulated before they can think about expansion.
“We need to make sure our service level is where it needs to be before we start expanding. We need to make sure our core is strong by having 30 minute service all day, then we can look at building up and moving out where the rest of the community is growing,” Pearl said.
Pearl said to open a new route costs anywhere between $200,000 to $300,000.
“There are priorities we have to look at first before we start expansion and one of those is  updating the fleet, so that is where a lot of the funding is going right now,” Pearl said.
