Andrew Freeman, Assistant City Manager has selected Mariya Hapiy (sounds like “happy”) as the next Librarian for the City of Plainview.
Ms. Hapiy holds a Master of Library Science degree from Texas Women’s University, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She also holds a Master of Education degree and has a background in elementary education having taught English for eight years.
Ms. Hapiy is proud to be joining the Unger Memorial team, with experience working for two libraries in the Dallas area. While working for Southern Methodist University she created metadata for the Central University Libraries’ digital collections. She has also served as a reference librarian at Richland College.
Mariya says she is very excited about the opportunities Unger Memorial Library has to offer. “I am especially interested in developing the programming for children and young adults.”
Ms. Hapiy is married to Robert Hurst and has a daughter, Viktoriya, who will be attending Plainview High School. Mariya is expected to begin her tenure with the City of Plainview June 6, 2016.
