On July 19th, the City of Plainview held a town hall meeting and listening sessions throughout the day to encourage residents to get involved in prioritizing the future of Plainview, as well as to learn about the progress of current city projects.
Citizens were asked to provide their input and learn about a range of topics pulled from the City’s comprehensive plan adopted in 2013. These were growth capacity; mobility; housing and neighborhoods; public facilities; parks, recreation, & natural resources; and land use and character. City staff and other representatives were available at each table in order to answer questions and provide an update on what the city is currently work on to meet the goals of the comprehensive plan.
Mayor Wendell Dunlap said, “This is only the beginning of further discussions with our citizens, but we believe this was a great kick-off meeting. We had a good turnout, with a diverse group of residents.”
“It was a great opportunity to listen to our citizens and discuss what they would like to see for Plainview. I am looking forward to continuing these discussions with the community as we work to address some of the major priorities.” City Manager Jeffrey Snyder said.
At each staff table, citizens were invited to write their thoughts down on each topic. Also asked were questions such as what are the city’s strengths, challenges, and describing Plainview in one word.
The last part of the meeting included an anonymous survey of the participants. Specific questions were asked on what the city’s priorities should be, thoughts on additional taxes for future bond proposals, and whether or not the city is listening and doing a good job.
