The lakes may be full now, but that does not mean we will not ever come across another drought in Texoma. In anticipation of drought situations, Wichita Falls city officials are preparing for the future with Lake Ringgold project.

In Tuesday’s city council meeting, councilors decided to pay an additional $360,000 needed for additional studies.

In 2015, the city hired a company to complete surveys for the water rights application, which was about to be submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, when they discovered the state had changed the process for the applications.

The public works director says the process for any modern water project can be lengthy.

“And all of that costs money,” Russell Schreiber, Public Works Director, said. “It costs piles of money to do all of that. But that’s the environment for getting a reservoir permitted and constructing a reservoir.”

The funding for the additional studies will come from this year’s million dollar budget covering the project.
