Whether you’re planning on leaving your Christmas trees up for a short while longer, or have plans to take it down December 26, the City of Lubbock wants to help you recycle it properly.

Andrea Cruce of Lubbock and her son, Julian, say they like to recycle when they can, and that the holidays are no exception. The Cruces typically get their Christmas tree at the beginning of each December and then plan to have it down by December 26.

“We try to get it down as soon as possible so we can get it recycled,” said Cruce. “If we can definitely contribute the tree then it makes a difference.”

Beginning December 26th ,the Solid Waste Services Department will offer fresh-cut Christmas tree recycling to residents  at the City’s four Recycling Drop-Off Centers, as listed below:

Recycling Centers

– 4307 Adrian Street

– 7307 Milwaukee

– 1631 84th Street

– 208 Municipal Drive

Residents are asked to remove all decorations, the metal stand, and any plastic before placing the fresh-cut Christmas tree in the roll-off dumpster located outside the gates of the recycling centers.

“We encourage residents to bring their fresh cut trees here to us rather than trying to place them inside the dumpster or place them beside the dumpster,” said Penny Morin, City of Lubbock Solid Waste Manager for Collections. “We don’t  want them in the alleys. We don’t want them inside the dumpster, your neighbors are going to need space for their Christmas trash afterwards so bring the trees here.”

After January 9, 2017, the roll-offs will be located inside the gates. Beginning then, residents will be able to drop off their trees from Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
