The City of Lubbock has come to an agreement with the United States Department of Justice that would settle an ongoing lawsuit.
In the suit, the D.O.J. claimed Lubbock Police’s hiring practices discriminated against women and Hispanics, a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Chief Greg Stevens confirmed Tuesday night that the suit was being settled.

The city will pay approximately $725,000 according to Stevens.
The Justice Department completed an investigation in June 2015, notified city officials of its findings, and indicated that a lawsuit would follow.
Stevens said changes had already been made to the department’s practices.
The attorney for the City of Lubbock said the court paperwork had not yet been formally filed, but anticipated documents to be filed by the end of May.
Stevens said additional information would be released in the coming days.
