Civic Lubbock, Inc. announces the release of “Lubbock Music NOW” – a new annual project focused on the people who provide the soundtrack for our city. It’s a compilation album of original music by current local musicians.
The CD ($15.00 plus tax) will be available starting October 23 at a release party at The Blue Light Live (1806 Buddy Holly Ave). The Release Party is being sponsored by The Blue Light Live. Through a partnership with United Supermarkets as the Presenting Sponsor, it will then be sold in all United, Market Street and Amigos stores in Lubbock.

BACKGROUND:
Civic Lubbock, Inc. put out a call for local artists to submit studio-produced original songs for a chance to be included on the Lubbock Music NOW 2016 album. Out of more than 60 songs submitted, the final selections were made by the past and current members of the Texas Branch of The Recording Academy (Texas Grammy Board).

Each artist was given a cash prize of $200 by Civic Lubbock and will receive 10 free copies of the CD. Artists appearing on the album this year will have to wait until the 2018 edition to apply again which will ensure a fresh set of music next year.
CD COVER ART:
Through a partnership with the Lubbock Arts Alliance, Civic Lubbock, Inc. requested cover designs from local artists and photographers to be considered. The winner, once again chosen by the Grammy Board judges, is called “Lubbock Nights” by Ashley Saed of Smyer. (attached as a jpg). The Lubbock Arts Alliance paid the winner a $500 prize.
All proceeds from sales of the CD and shirts will go to Civic Lubbock, Inc. to be invested in local music projects including future years of Lubbock Music NOW.
Civic Lubbock’s mission is to foster and promote educational, cultural and entertainment programs, to include the visual and performing arts, for the citizens of Lubbock and the surrounding area.
