Coalition of Community Assistance Volunteers, Inc. of Lubbock, Announces Free Tax Preparation Dates

Coalition of Community Assistance Volunteers, Inc. (CCAV), the leading Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA Program on the South Plains), announced dates for the CCAV VITA Site in Lubbock, TX. The doors will officially open on January 17, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. at the CCAV VITA Site, located on 5601 South Avenue Q, Lubbock, TX 79412. The tax preparation service is FREE for qualifying individuals and families and will be available from January 17, 2017, through April 17, 2017.

Last year in Lubbock, CCAV had over 70 community volunteers that contributed more than 2,200 hours of service, generating over $4.5 million dollars in tax refunds and helping more than 3,200 individuals and families receive free tax preparation services. Great volunteers are the key to our success.

“We’re excited to open our doors for the new tax season, and our trained volunteers look forward to offering this free service to qualifying families,” said Amaris Garcia, CCAV Program Coordinator.

Volunteers are all trained and certified to prepare taxes. Our CCAV participating volunteer groups include students from Texas Tech’s Personal Financial Planning Department, Texas Tech School of Law, and community members.

For the protection of all taxpayers, volunteers will only prepare basic income tax returns for which they are trained, in strict accordance with all IRS rules and regulations.

Items to bring to the CCAV VITA Site: Copy of last year’s tax return, voided check for direct deposit of refunds, W-2 and 1099 forms, ORIGINAL social security cards or ITIN cards and birth dates for taxpayers and all dependents, government-issued photo ID for all taxpayers and all dependents.

Individuals and Families can visit www.ccavlubbock.org to see if they qualify for the free tax preparation services and for a complete list of items to bring to the CCAV VITA Site.
