Then in the bottom of the frame, Tech’s sophomore outfielder Tanner Gardner reached first with two outs, but senior DH Cory Raley struck out swinging to retire the side.
In the top of the second, with a runner at second, Coastal’s David Parrett hit an RBI single through the left side and the Chanticleers strike first. Tech back to the plate.
Tech responded in the bottom of the second, a bases clearing 3-RBI double from Stephen Smith gives Texas Tech the 3-1 lead.
However, in the top of the third, two critical errors plague the Red Raiders. Coastal had runners at second and third with one out, when GK Young hit a chopper to third, resulting in Hunter Hargrove making a wild throw home that scored Remillard. Then later in the frame, a rare error from Eric Gutierrez allows two more Coastal runs to cross. Texas Tech now trailed 4-3.
In the bottom of the third, the Red Raiders squander yet another great opportunity. Tech had the bases loaded with only one out, but Coastal Carolina’s Morrison struck out Davis and Floyd to retire the side.
In the bottom of the fourth, Tech had runners on first and second with one out once more, but came up empty. The Red Raiders trailed by one after four innings.
Then in the bottom of the fifth, the Chanticleers exploded for three more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 7-3.
However, Tech would respond. Hunter Hargrove hits a SAC fly to left and scores Tanner Gardner from third. Raiders back within three.
Then, sophomore second baseman Michael Davis knocked one through the right side and scored Tyler Neslony from second. Raiders trailed Coastal, 7-5.
In the eighth inning the Red Raiders put two on with two outs again, but Tyler Neslony hit a chopper up the middle that was tip and collected by Holmes for the final out of the frame. Tech trailed 7-5.
