Red Raider baseball fans have donated money to the Texas Tech bat boy, 8-year-old Crosby Carmichael, so he will be able to attend the College World Series with the team.
After the community found out Carmichael couldn’t attend because the University cannot fund his trip due to NCAA rules, they took action.
Barry Orr, a Chairman and CEO at First Bank and Trust, said it is something they have been doing for years.
“You take a little darling boy like Crosby and of course the Texas Tech baseball team want him there and he’s part of the team,” Orr said.
Carmichael has grown up a huge Texas Tech fan because of his father. Britt Carmichael said they did not ask for this but it just shows how great the community is in Lubbock.
“It’s unbelievable, we just want to say thank you for what everyone has done. We truly have the best fans in the nation,” Britt Carmichael said.
To support Carmichael, donors can write a check to the bat boy account and drop the check off at First Bank and Trust. The week-long stay in Omaha can cost about $4,000. As of Wednesday, Carmichael had received almost half of that total.
