Alderson Elementary officials, teachers, students and families are invited to a cookout Thursday evening (8/18/16) at 6:00 p.m. at the school, 219 Walnut Avenue.
Volunteers from PlainsCapital Bank, Parkhill, Smith & Cooper and McDougal Companies will make the event possible.
A written statement from PlainsCapital said in part:
- An annual event, the Back to School cookout originated as a way to encourage parent and family participation at the school’s Open House and foster excitement for the start of the new school year, while helping school officials address important administrative needs: student enrollment forms, medical documents, classroom curriculums, etc.
- Parents receive tickets when they meet with teachers and school staff, which they redeem for complimentary food and beverages at the cookout.
- The event is coordinated and sponsored by the school’s corporate partners – PlainsCapital Bank; Parkhill, Smith & Cooper; and McDougal Companies – as part of the LISD’s Partners in Education program designed to help facilitate community support for low income schools.
- PlainsCapital Bank initiated the Back to School Open House cookout 10 years ago and was the original sponsor. As the size of the school and number of students increased over the years, PlainsCapital Bank’s long-time customers – Parkhill, Smith & Cooper and McDougal Companies – came on board to help provide additional volunteers and resources.
- PlainsCapital Bank’s unwavering commitment to the Partners in Education program spans 21 years. Since 1994, PlainsCapital has participated in the LISD program to sponsor a low income elementary school.
