Monday night’s crash that sent Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Burns to the hospital with serious injuries concerning many, as the community has rallied to support the Deputy’s well-being.
“We’re praying for him that he’ll make it out alright,” said Antonio Villa who heard the crash and witnessed the wreck scene.
Also, Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe giving thanks for all the well wishes.
“We’re very thankful for all the thoughts and prayers that have been going out and we’re certainly very thankful for those reaching out as well,” said Sheriff Rowe.
Social media is playing a big role in the public’s way of sharing prayers and positivity and also reminding us, this isn’t the first time our local law enforcement have been injured while on the job.
In late July, a Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in an accident that sent him to the hospital. LSO said the Deputy was responding to a medical emergency when the LSO Tahoe and a BMW collided. The deputy was taken to UMC and released and the driver was treated on scene.
Also in late July, Lubbock Police Corporal Ryan Durrett was seriously injured during an arrest. Jose Escarcega is accused of stealing Cpl. Durrett’s patrol unit and dragging him before crashing into a pole.
Plus, in late May Lubbock Police Officer Corey Owens was re-routing traffic when Jesse Tello drove into Officer Owens’ car causing it to hit Owens and sent him to the hospital in serious condition.
The community supporting Officer Owens with several fundraisers across town and he was honored during the summer’s Helping Injured Hero’s event.
“I want to thank everybody including the Police Officers and Angels Foundation they’ve been there since the day I got hurt, as soon as they found out about it,” said Officer Owens in an interview over the summer. “I just want to thank the whole community for as much as they’ve done, it’s been a blessing with the support that they have shown.”

LSO said Deputy Burns is in stable condition as of Tuesday evening.
