This morning, Lubbock police said they found 9 year old Azyria Jones after she was missing for several hours. They said they started searching through the neighborhood near Jones home where they eventually found her safe at a neighbor’s house.
“Our response was immediate, a missing 9 year old girl is not a run away a missing 9 year old girl is a missing child. We were knocking door to door house to house showing people this little girl’s picture until we stumbled across the right house,” Assistant Chief of Police, Jon Caspell said.
Police said one of Jones teenage siblings was babysitting her and when her parents came home they realized she was gone. Police said Jones told them she had met a new friend in the neighborhood.
“The little girl was there and had apparently told this family where she was but that didn’t turn out to be the case. This is not uncommon,” Caspell said.
Even though she was right down the street, Jones family said they are just happy she is home safe.
“‘All this time she was right under our nose, the whole time. I said to her, ‘don’t you know what you have caused, the heartache the pain and everybody is searching and looking for you.’ Like I said, I thank everybody that helped me look for my baby. I appreciate it so much,’” Jones mother, Angela Wilson said.
