First responders were called to Parkway Drive and Zenith Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. for a head-on collision in a construction zone.
Two people suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. A third person was taken from the scene by EMS as a precaution.
“When entering a construction zone, motorists need to be careful because it can change from day to day,” said Dianah Ascencio, spokeswoman for the Lubbock office of TxDOT.
The construction in question is a Texas Department of Transportation project. Ascencio was not commenting on this specific accident but rather she was talking about construction zone safety in general.
“Slow down and follow the speed limit,” Ascencio said. “Speeding is a major cause of crashes.”
“Road construction can be frustrating so being patient is important,” she said.
