Lubbock Police are taking their turn in the spotlight as they currently film for the Spike TV show ‘COPS’ over the next eight weeks.
“I think it’s kind of neat and it brings attention to our department as well as the city of Lubbock,” Assistant Chief Neal Barron said.
The film crew arrived last week and is following around the Sector Support Squad, a group of officers that patrol during the busiest times.
Barron said the crew will film eight stories that will air during the current season of ‘COPS.’
“I hope they recognize the professionalism of our officers and just the way our officers carry themselves in dealing with the problems that they run across,” Barron said.
Barron said it’s great exposure as ‘COPS’ will feature clips on its website and to its 1.4-million fans on Facebook.
He said the show is a great way to help with recruiting new officers, something LPD is struggling with right now.
“I think the exposure on a nationally televised show will let people see the professionalism and courtesy of our officers as they’re working on the day-to-day calls of our service,” Barron said. “I think that’ll draw people to come to Lubbock and draw people to come to our department.”
