Coronado High School Cheerleaders And Football Players Ask Special Needs Students To Homecoming

Coronado High School cheerleaders and football players paraded into the cafeteria today to present the special needs students with flowers, mums, and even asked them to homecoming. The idea was initiated by varsity football player, Noah Sifrit who created the acronym ‘B.U.D.S’ which stands for: Building Up Deserving Students.

“My mom asked ‘who are you taking to homecoming?’ and I said nobody,”said Sifrit. “I told her there’s this girl named grace, she’s a special ed student and I give her a hug every 6th period.. I want to take her.”

Varsity cheerleader, Jentry Swift has been on the team for four years, and said that the cheerleaders and athletes play a leadership role for the school and that its important to them to treat everyone with kindness and set an example.

“It’s like an overwhelming feeling because it feels so amazing that Noah came up with this idea to ask these kids to homecoming,” said Swift. “It brings so much joy to their heart and therefore it brings joy to our hearts too.”

Coronado will take on Odessa tomorrow night, Noah is also working on creating ‘BUDS at the Ballpark’, where the students will be invited to run out on the baseball field with the players. Sifrit will be graduating in the Spring, and going to OSU, he hopes that this tradition lives on at Coronado and even spreads to other schools across the LISD district.
