Last month. former councilman Frank Morrison received a $10,000 donation for his Coronado Project–a non profit apartment complex for low income families. Previously owned by Lester Payne, the property was sold to Morrison in 2013, with Payne as the lien holder. Payne scheduled to foreclose on Morrison who owes Morrison $400,000. Payne planned to put the property up for an auction sale on Thursday, November 1. Morrison said Payne reconsidered, giving Morrison more time.
“It’s a tremendous relief for us to know that we will be able to continue helping these citizens,” said Morrison.
Owner of Integrity Properties, a non profit mobile home community dedicated to helping veterans, Shawn Fuller has attempted to step in as a mediator between Morrison and Payne. Seeing Morrison’s vision, and the financial frustration of Payne, Fuller is hoping to help the two come to an agreement without a foreclosure.
“Is there a way to help The Coronado Project to continue its mission which is helping those in need yet physically stay open as a viable business,” said Fuller. “Right now I don’t have a say or a dog in the race, I’m just working with the players involved in it to see if it can be done.”
The three of them are going to try to come up with a solution within the next week. If they are unable to find a solution, Fuller said it’s possible the property could be up for auction in December at The Lubbock County Courthouse.
