We talked to Aijalon Ashley who is an Emergency Nurse at Covenant Children’s and tells us about a national certification that more and more nurses are encouraged to get.

“Our goal here is to get as many nurses as possible certified as an Emergency Nurse.”

“The national certification signifies the nurses commitment to expertise in that particular field for Pediatric Emergency Nurse our Certified Pediatric Nurse shows a commitment to the latest and highest level of care in the pediatric nursing.”

Ashley says nurses have some qualifications they must meet in order to take the test.

“There’s a mandate of a few years of experience, the nurses have to apply for and take the test and have to pass.  They receive their CPN and then they have to maintain that certification with Continuing Education Hours.

Right now Covenant Children’s is at 26% of their Emergency Room nursing staff having their CPN and their hope is that they can get 100% and that our nurses are personally wanting to be the best they can be in their field.
