This Halloween, there are some good safety tips to keep in mind when it comes to Trick or Treating for the kids.
We talked with Dr. Michael Chamales who is the Medical Director of Covenant ER about what parents can do to keeps our kids safe while out getting candy.
Dr. Chamales says that they see a four fold increase of car versus pedestrian accidents on the night of Halloween. So…
1. Make sure that costume masks are set where kids can see out of them. And that the costume fits properly so the child isn’t tripping or falling.
2. Watch for vehicles, they will be driving slower but make sure they see you too.
3. Put reflective tape on those dark costumes so they can be seen when it gets dark.
4. Know where your kids are going, make sure they go to places that they know.
5. If your child is under 12 or 13 years old they need to have an adult with them at all times walking up to the door with them so you know they are safe.
6. Make you you go through your child’s candy to look for open pieces or choking hazards.
