Starting on August 20th, Covenant has a free sports injury clinic that is open to athletes of all ages.

“We’ll see sprains, strains, fractures, stress fractures,” Covenant Athletic Trainer Michael Gore said.

Covenant has this annual sports medicine injury clinic each fall as a place for athletes to get free evaluations. Gore said the clinic started in the fall, at first, to help out athletes who play football.

“The clinic is created for Thursday and Friday night football injuries, but we’ve opened it up to an athlete, any age,” he said.

Now, they will see any athletes playing at different levels of competition.

“If you’re in intramural sports and you’re injured, in an injury at college, we’ll see them,” Gore said. “We’ll see weekend warriors, any age, upper-age levels, if it’s a city sport and they get injured, and then we’ll also see the youngsters.”

There are some things you will have to bring with you when you go to the clinic.

“If you’re a school athlete, junior high athlete, make sure a parent or coach with you to fill out paperwork, sign forms, that type of stuff, but also bring a school insurance form with you, as well as the personal insurance information,” Gore said.

He also said you can get an evaluation if you don’t have insurance.

“Even if you don’t have insurance, this is a perfect avenue for you to at least get initially evaluated, to see if, because there’s not going to be a charge just to evaluate you,” he said.

The clinic is at Covenant’ Health Plus, at 7601 Quaker Avenue and starts at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The first one is Saturday, August 20th and runs each Saturday until November 5th.

Gore said they see patients on a first come, first serve basis.
