Lynda McNutt was diagnosed with breast cancer on her wedding anniversary, July 30th, 2003. But she says she chose to fight it.

“I chose to control the cancer, not let the cancer control me, ” said McNutt. “In my way of thinking, that if I let people do things for me, the cancer was winning and stubborn me said the cancer wasn’t going to win, I was going to beat it.”

And she beat it not just once, but twice. She’s part of a nationwide group of survivors participating in National Cancer Survivor’s Day.

“It’s a day we recognize to bring awareness to cancer’s journey,” said Joe Velasquez, with the Joe Arrington Cancer Center. “It’s not one that’s always negative.”
