October is National Physical Therapy month, giving people the chance to celebrate the work physical therapists put in to help others.
“We’re just really trying to get them back to where they were before they came to see us,” Covenant physical therapist Kate Barnett said.
“Physical therapists have hearts to care for people, we’re compassionate people, we see our patients multiple times a week, and we get to know them and have a connection and interaction,” Barnett said.
“I think seeing them multiple times a week further helps that connection, and that’s what ultimately leads to mood changes or them feeling better. They have someone that knows them, that cares about them, and it really is there to help them get there to where they were before,” she said.
Barnett said they see all types of patients, including people post-operation and even athletes.
“I have been coming for almost three months, I could have stopped a month ago, but I actually asked to come another month so that I could be the best that I could be,” Gail Smith said. She is in physical therapy for a double knee replacement she had done.
“These people are so kind and so nice, and they have brought me back to almost what I was before, except better,” Smith said.
With October being a month to celebrate physical therapy, Barnett said this is when it’s nice to talk about exactly what physical therapists do.
“It’s nice to highlight what we do and what we see,” Barnett said. “We see so many different things that just makes physical therapy a really rewarding field where we get to see so many people and help so many different types of people.”
