Every Saturday, athletes of all ages can use Covenant’s free Sports Injury Clinic if they have an athletic injury they need checked out.
“If you’re injured or you feel like you have a problem, it’s a good time to come in,” Dr. Courtney Cowden with Covenant said.
The clinic is for kids and adults, but the Saturday morning time is especially good for student-athletes, especially for those who play football.
[We’re] “trying to help people who had the game the night before get assessed and hopefully back on their feet by the time the school week comes back around again and they can know what the game plan is if they have an injury when they hit practice Monday.” Cowden said.
The initial assessment is free.
“The assessment is free of charge and any kind of additional imaging or something like that we will try to put on insurance if we can,” he said.
He also added there are differences in the injuries they’ll see between kids and adults.
“Kids tend to have stronger ligaments than bones so their bones tend to break, whereas adults have weaker ligaments, we tend to get more sprains and those kinds of things,” he said.
The clinic runs every Saturday through November 11, 2017. It’s from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Covenant Health Plus at 7601 Quaker Avenue. They see patients on a first-come, first-serve basis.
