As we head toward a new season, some people may start to have their allergies flare up.

Friday, August 11, Covenant has a free asthma and allergy fair. The goal is to teach people more about allergies and show them resources available.

“Summer allergy season is not a bad one for most people. But fall allergy season is a big one,” Dr. Goutam Shome said.

Dr. Shome is an immunologist for Covenant.

“Knowing the problem, getting ready for it, really helps you mitigate the problem to a significant effect,” Dr. Shome said about allergies.

If you start to feel symptoms like stuffy, runny, or itchy nose, you may be trying to figure out if it’s allergies or a viral infection.

“If symptoms are persistent, lasting for many months, worse with the season change, you know something’s in the air,” Dr. Shome said. “Nobody gets symptoms five months out of the year for viral infections. So you’re talking about something in the environment you’re living in.”

The allergy and asthma fair is Friday, August 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Covenant Southwest. You can learn more about the free event here.
