The Hospice of Lubbock is seeking volunteers and they have a training this weekend for people who are interested.
“We do care for their physical well-being, but mind and emotionally and spirit. We take care of all of those, we become, in many cases we become part of a person’s family,” Cheryl Presley said.
Presley is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Hopsice of Lubbock.
The Hospice of Lubbock is a non-profit that serves people of all ages.
“It’s a very holistic treatment plan for the whole family, not just the patient, but the family and the extended family,” LaLani Carter said. “So there is the medical care, the doctors, the nurses, but we have social workets, we have chaplains, and we have grief counselors.”
Carter is a volunteer as well as the board chair for the Hospice of Lubbock.
“Volunteering, for me, is just a way of giving back. Like I said, with my father-in-law being on the service and what they gave, I wanted to give back, but volunteering just in general,” Carter said. “It fills you up, you are giving back to the community and to others and so I like that aspect of it.”
There are a number of different areas you can volunteer, including direct patient volunteering, in the office, or with the bereavement enter.
Hospice of Lubbock does require 16 hours of training in order to be certified to volunteer. The October training session is from October 6 to 8. On Friday, October 6, training is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
