It’s no question that Covenant Children’s first priority is helping your child be healthy and normal.

But, they can’t always do it alone. That’s why the hospital teams up with the March of Dimes foundation.

“It’s astounding what outcomes we have now, they’re really good outcomes,” said Marguerite Fallon, the Chief Nursing Officer at Covenant Children’s Hospital.

Fallon also said those improved outcomes for neonatal babies is something she’s witnessed in her more than 20-years of service at Covenant Children’s.

“It’s a miracle what we can do, it is a miracle.  Of course God has a hand in it right, but it’s a miracle to see those little kids come back,” Fallon said.

Fallon also said those improvements wouldn’t be possible without the March of Dimes.

“Through the March of Dimes and their research, babies do so much better now when they’re born prematurely.  Babies that are, you know, what we call micro preemies actually have a pretty normal quality of life and that’s amazing and wonderful for parents,” said Fallon.

That’s why every year Covenant Children’s teams up with March of Dimes to improve their care.
Last year’s effort at Covenant included putting pink flamingo’s in your yard. To remove them, the homeowner was required to make a donation to the March of Dimes.
“The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality,” said Amy Johnson-Rubio, Maternal & Child Health Director at March of Dimes.

Which means even if your baby is healthy they still benefit from the organization’s research.

“People sometimes don’t realize how much we do from immunization to new born screening test that every new born is screened for 31-disorders at birth.  March of Dimes helped get legislation passed for that,” said Johnson-Rubio.

But, without your help those screenings and that legislation wouldn’t happen.

“We’re dependent on these events and donations on our community to do the work that we do,” said Johnson-Rubio.

That’s also why they’re inviting you to join them at this year’s March of Dimes for Babies.

It will take place Saturday March 22nd at Raider Alley near the Drive of Champions & Canton Avenue.

The organization’s goal this year is to raise $275-thousand.

You can register or make a donation toward that goal here.
