Texas Senator and presidential hopeful Ted Cruz suspended his campaign, in announcement shortly after election results in Indiana began to come in.

His departure came after front-runner Donald Trump took Indiana, and presumably enough delegates to secure the nomination for President.

“From the beginning, I’ve said that I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory,” Cruz said to supporters Tuesday night.

“Tonight, I’m sorry to say it appears that path has been foreclosed,” he said as the crowd booed.

“Together, we left it all on the field in Indiana. We gave it everything we’ve got. But the voters chose another path. And so, with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign,” Cruz said.

“What Ted did is really a very brave thing to do…and a great thing to do,” Donald Trump said in an address to supporters. “Because we want to bring unity to the Republican party.”

“He is one hell of competitor. He is a tough, smart guy,” Trump added. “And he has got an an amazing future. He has got an amazing future…so I want to congratulate Ted.”

Trump also thanked Texas Tech and Indiana sports legend Bobby Knight for his supports.

“We had a tremendous victory tonight – it was a tremendous victory. I have to thank Bobby Knight. Bobby Knight was incredible,” the GOP front-runner said.

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus tweeted a message about Trump’s status Tuesday night.
