Dalhart Man Killed in Dallam County Traffic Accident Tuesday Morning

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a one-vehicle crash this morning [Tuesday] on FM-1727 in Dallam County, resulting in the death of one person.

At approximately 6:57 a.m., Anthony Urias, 22, of Dalhart, was driving a 2007 GMC Sierra pickup truck westbound on FM-1727 approximately 10 miles northwest of Dalhart. Urias fell asleep while driving and the pickup truck veered off to the left side of the roadway and into the barrow ditch where it continued to travel for several hundred feet.  When Urias awoke, he over-corrected the steering, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.  The pickup truck skid back onto the roadway, rolled over several times and ejected Urias before coming to a rest on its wheels in the barrow ditch to the right side of the roadway.

Urias was transported to the Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart where he later died.

Urias was not wearing his seat belt.

The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
