The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a one vehicle crash that occurred Sunday in Dallam County, resulting in the death of one person.
At approximately 11:57 p.m., Troy Wharton, 74, of Dalhart, was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban westbound on SH 102 approximately 12 miles northwest of Dalhart. The Suburban veered to the right and off the roadway. Wharton over-corrected to the left, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The Suburban traveled back across both lanes of travel and into the left barrow ditch where it rolled over and landed in a field.
Wharton was pronounced dead on scene by Dallam County, Justice of the Peace, Judge Smith.
The passenger, Betty Wharton, 72, of Dalhart was transported to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.
The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
