A Dallas man was arrested on a Forgery charge after he was caught trying to get into Dyess Air Force Base with false identifying documents.

Police reports say Andres Velaquez, 63, tried to gain access to the base Wednesday morning by presenting a counterfeit social security card and permanent resident card.

Dyess officials tell us that Velaquez was attempting to enter the base for employment reasons. Security Forces denied Velaquez access after recognizing the documentation to be fraudulent. The Abilene Police Department then responded to the scene and had Velaquez detained.

Velaquez told police that he was a resident alien collecting disability money from the government card and was using the permanent resident card to work under, according to the reports.

He was booked into the Taylor County Jail on a Forgery charge before being released after posting a $3,500 bond.

It is rare for individuals to attempt entering the base with false credentials, according to Dyess officials. They say this was Velaquez’ first time trying to gain access and that this instance demonstrates the effectiveness of base security systems.

All contractor personnel undergo background checks and are required to present proper credentials before being allowed to access the base, according to Dyess officials.
