The Texas Department of Public Safety said Bobby Lee Walters, 49, of Brownwood lost his life early Tuesday evening in traffic accident 16 miles north of Plains.
DPS said Walters was driving a pickup truck southbound along State Highway 214. An 18-wheeler was going north.
“The dodge pickup drifted into the southbound lane into the path of the semi tractor trailer unit,” DPS said in a written statement. “The semi tractor trailer took evasive action but was unable to avoid striking the dodge pickup.”
DPS said Walters was pronounced dead a the scene. DPS also said conditions were cloudy but dry.
DPS said the driver of the semi, Jose Guadalupe Vasquez Hernandez, 59, of Hart, was transported to Yoakum County Hospital along with his passenger, Dolores Vasquez, 57. Those injuries were not described as life-threatening.
DPS said the cause of Walters drifting into the other lane was still under investigation.
