According to police on the scene, a motorcycle rider died after a crash Monday evening near 50th Street and Avenue Q.  

Police said the motorcycle was going southbound about 6:30 pm and collided with an SUV which was coming out of the parking lot of United Supermarkets.  EMS took the rider to a local hospital with critical injuries, and he was later pronounced dead. 

The driver of the SUV was not injured, according to a reporter at the scene.

Update: On Monday night, Lubbock Police released the following statement.

This evening, Monday, March 14, 2016, at approximately 6:29 p.m., patrol officers responded to a report of an SUV versus motorcycle crash in the 5200 block of South Ave Q Drive. The motorcycle, a 2010 Harley Davidson was southbound on Ave Q when a 2003 Lincoln Navigator pulled out of a private drive and failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, James Ray Daniel Jr. – 57, was transported to UMC where he died a short time later. No one in the Lincoln Navigator was injured.

The Lubbock Police Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene and is investigating the crash.
