The law firm representing the family of Jose Antonio Espinoza Ruiz (Jose Espinoza) on Friday released police dash-cam video related to an officer-involved shooting in Levelland.
Espinoza, 55, was shot by officers six times and died later. His wife, Emilia Espinoza, filed a lawsuit for $5 million.
A federal judge in Lubbock partially dismissed the lawsuit in mid-August. Officers and the then-Chief-of-Police are no longer named as individuals in the lawsuit but the City of Levelland remains as a defendant.
Officers responded to a home at 15th Street and Avenue A on January 23, 2015 for the report of a disturbance.
The video showed officers demanding Espinoza drop a weapon which the officers described in the video as a knife.
After a tense encounter, officers fired. The video did not show the confrontation directly because it happened off-screen to the right.
