Delivery Driver Shoots Man Tuesday Morning in Lubbock, According to LPD

bread Truck Shooting 720

Lubbock Police said a delivery driver shot another man Tuesday morning in the 2100 block of Clovis Road.  Police were called just before 9:15 a.m. for the report of shots fired.

Police said a man in a bread truck was making a delivery.  Police said a suspect then got into the back of the truck and took items.  As the suspect was coming back – presumably to take more items – the driver told the suspect to stop.  When the suspect did not stop, the driver pulled out a concealed handgun.  Police said when the suspect still did not stop approaching the truck the driver shot the suspect in the leg.

Police said the driver was licensed to carry a concealed weapon.  No charged were filed as of late Tuesday morning and police said their investigation would continue.

The injuries to the suspect were not life-threatening.

Late Tuesday afternoon, Lubbock Police issued the following statement:

Lubbock Police received a call in reference to a robbery and shots fired.  An initial investigation shows that a Hispanic male suspect had been stealing items from a food trailer at the listed location when he was confronted by the victim making a delivery there.  The suspect made suspicious and aggressive movements that caused the victim to be in fear of being robbed, in fear of imminent bodily injury, and that the suspect may be armed.  This caused the victim to draw a personal firearm and point it at the suspect, announcing he was a CHL holder.  The victim commanded him to stop but the suspect continued with his movements.  The victim shot the suspect, who received what is believed to be a non-life-threatening injury.  The suspect was transported by EMS to UMC and released pending charges and for treatment of his injury.

Charges against the suspect are being evaluated and will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office.  Several possible stolen items were recovered as evidence.  The investigation is on-going.
