Demolition began Monday on the house that was once home for murdered Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn.
Colorado City City Manager David Hoover spoke about the home’s condition in July, saying it had become dilapidated and uninhabitable over the years.
Squatters were living inside the home on Chestnut Street when Hoover made his comments.
Hoover made an appeal to the Housing Standards committee and convinced them that repairs to the house would cost more than the house is worth, so the demolition was approved.
Hailey Dunn was last seen when she was going to stay the night with a friend in December of 2010, according to initial investigation reports which did not indicate a kidnapping, so no amber alert was issued. Search crews surveyed nearly every inch of her hometown of Colorado City and the surrounding areas for months.
Her family and friends finally received some sense of closure when her remains were found near Lake J.B. Thomas in Scurry County in the spring of 2013. But her killer still remains at large, and investigators are still working on the case.
The ex-boyfriend of Hailey’s mother, Shawn Adkins, is still a potential suspect according to the Department of Public Safety.
