The Texas Department of Public Safety said an Eastland County Sheriff’s Deputy lost his life in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning.
DPS said Deputy Kenneth Hubert Maltby, 73, of Eastland was pronounced dead at the scene.
DPS said Colton James Conger, 23, of Eastland was driving a pickup truck eastbound on FM 570 more than a mile west of Eastland. DPS said his truck swerved into the westbound lane and struck Deputy Maltby’s SUV.
“The deputy was on duty at the time,” DPS said.
An official crash summary from DPS did not say why Conger’s truck swerved into the oncoming lane of traffic. Both Conger and Maltby wore their seatbelts. Conger’s injuries were not life-threatening.
