Despite Success, Red Raider Baseball Will Only See Small Portion of Tournament Ticket Sales

Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park will be at full capacity Friday evening as Texas Tech is officially sold out of tickets for this weekend’s NCAA Lubbock Super Regional. The revenue Texas Tech has accumulated over the last two weekends has helped businesses in the Hub City. However, Texas Tech athletics will only be receiving a portion of that money.

Robert Giovannetti, a Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations at Texas Tech, said hosting the Regionals is a great opportunity for the City of Lubbock but not so much the university.

“For us it’s not, Texas Tech isn’t a huge money maker for the Regional because the NCAA gets all the revenue from the tickets,” Giovannetti said.

Texas Tech reserved 300 tickets for students at Tech who wanted to attend the game. Tickets for the game were free with a valid student ID. Some fans arrived at midnight to assure they were guaranteed a ticket.

“You also can’t calculate what this has done for the program, the school and the entire community,” Giovannetti said.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders will kickoff the Super Regionals Friday at 7 p.m.
