A special event spotlighting talent from the Cactus Theater will celebrate National Doctors’ Day, a day that observes the contribution of physicians to the communities they serve. The Lubbock Crosby Garza County Medical Society Foundation and health professionals from across the South Plains invite the public to an evening of fabulous fun, food, and entertainment Saturday April 2nd 2016, 6:00pm.
Proceeds from the event will go to VetStar, a nonprofit that connects military veterans to resources to equip them to be successful. One of VetStar’s primary goals is to help stem the shocking tide of suicides (22 per day nationally) among veterans and find treatment options for Post-Traumatic Stress and related mental illnesses among South Plains veterans, some of who face homelessness, poverty and hopelessness. The focus of the donation will be to help fund local programs that specialize in dealing with the mental side effects of combat time.
“We have so many veterans who are involved with our medical community here in Lubbock, including dozens of doctors,” said Norval Pollard, president of the foundation. “It’s an honor for our organization to be able to recognize their patriotic service to our country and also let them know how much we appreciate the incredible medical expertise and care they provide us each and every day.”
The evening will include a silent auction with over $3000 worth of merchandise and gift certificates from leading Lubbock businesses.
