Dry Eye is becoming one of the most prominent conditions in America today. There are over three million cases every year diagnosed. Dry eye is considered to be an inflammatory condition of the eye that can cause irrigation. Optometrist Dr. Darrin Peterson, says that dry eye comes from the types of tears that form in your eyes.
“It causes a wide variety of different symptoms,” Peterson said. “It can be anything like a sharp, short and stabbing pains to the eye, a sandy and gritty feeling, a film that covers your vision, temporary blurriness and even constant aggravating pain.”
Luckily, there is a treatment for this condition. You can use artificial tears with things that say lubrication in them. If that doesn’t help it’s best to schedule an appointment for a dry eye evaluation.
The changing season can also cause you to have dry eye syndrome, but there’s one cause of dry eye that is becoming more common.
“The fact that we spend more time on devices that project light at us, whether it’s phones, tablets or other things, we are actually seeing loss of gland function because of this,” Peterson said.
