In Big Spring, parents are concerned after finding multiple nails in the KidZone area of Comanche Trail Park.

YourBasin.com brought the rusty nails found throughout the play area to the city and they stepped in. They have sent workers to sweep the mulch with a magnet.

Johnny Womack, Public Works Director with the City of Big Spring says he has an idea where the nails are coming from.

“The original KidZone burned down several years ago and those nails you brought me look like they’re from the original KidZone,” Womack said.

Womack says it’s an easy fix and he’ll monitor the issue.

“I’ll get the guys to go out and scan a magnet across the ground,” Womack said.

Joyce Ruiz, eager to spend the summer with her grandkids. She wasn’t happy about the safety issue at the park.

“I have younger grandkids that will be coming here soon and I just don’t think it’s safe,” Ruiz said. “The young ones can put them in their mouth or walk on them.”

Seth Williamson brings his kids to park often. He says he spends a large chunk of his time picking up trash and other items.

“I want to see more clean up and maintenance,” Williamson said. “It could a lot of work.”

The city will continue to clean up through the rest of the week. Parents should still keep an eye out for nails, because Womack says the rain could be causing them to surface.
